Inhibition effect of natural Artemisia oils towards tinplate corrosion in HCl solution
Scopus: "The natural Artemisia essential oil (AO) was tested as a green inhibitor for tinplate in de-aerated hydrochloride solution (0.5M HCl), by means of potentiostatic polarization, in the range of temperature from 298 to 338 K. Polarization data obtained reveal that AO performed excellently as a corrosion inhibitor for tinplate corrosion in hydrochloride acid media and acted as a mixed type inhibitor."

I.P.A. International Packaging Association elects new President
Packaging Europe: "The results of the working committees are being reviewed and guidelines are issued for the next years. Regulatory aspects of coatings, tinplate capacity changes and sustainable recycling achievements are currently focus points for the working groups.
In 2011 the members discussed especially various aspects of metal packaging recycling with its impact and benefit to the society, also by learning from a presentation of Professor Alessandro Marangoni from Bocconi University Milan about the creation of shared value from the metal packaging industry.
Another important area is the production capacity shifts across the global tinplate market. IPA observes regions of high growth with promising tinplate installations.
A new Presidency has started. Antonio Teixeira, CEO of Brasilata, was elected to succeed Dr. Hans Jordi from Switzerland who will retire from the day-to-day operations. Other members of the management committee are Dr. Rainer Opferkuch of Huber Packaging Group in Germany and Meral Gezgin from Hilal Ambalaj in Turkey"

Study on efficient and harmfulless solvent-based paint stripper for tinplate
Scopus: "A solvent-based paint stripper was prepared for comprehensive utilization of food -can waste tin plates. By using the single factor experiments, studied the influences of main solvent content and its mixture proportion, CTMAB content and lactic acid content to the removal efficiency, and investigated the volatility and corrosivity of paint stripper.
The results showed that a low toxicity, corrosivity and volatility paint stripper was obtained when the composition was as follow(mass fraction):phenyl-ethanol for 21%, ethanol for 49%, CTMAB for 2% and lactic acid for 28%.The films were softened and removed in three to five minutes at 80'C∼85'C, and the paint stripper got the highest stripping efficiency at this time."

Nippon Steel to Send Professionals for Tinplate JV with WISCO
Factiva: "Nippon Steel sends more than 15 persons to tinplate making fifty-fifty joint venture with Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Corporation, WISCO-Nippon SteelTinplate. The support team is as large as the firm launched Chinese joint venture, Baosteel-NSC/Arcelor Automotive Steel Sheets. Nippon Steel launched the project team for the joint venture on August 1 while the firm seeks the approval from Chinese authorities. Nippon Steel started facilities order to build new plant with state of the art process and technology."
Baosteel outlines tin plate development vision - 216733 - 2011-07-27
Steel Guru: "In the future along with the continued development of the metal packaging industry, Baosteel Co Ltd will focus on four major themes of development: thinning, surface, service and green. Through close cooperation with the downstream industrial users, it will create a green, efficient and safe tin supply chain"
This is the news from recently held Baosteel Co Ltd 2011 annual tin products customer and satisfaction survey conference.
Tin plate is Baosteel leading product. After 10 years of effort, Baosteel Co Ltd has become tinplate product enterprise which is the largest and of most complete variety with annual tin plate output of up to 1.2 million tons and which is widely used in the metal packaging industry. Especially since last year, Baosteel has set up a special tin plate production, marketing and research promotion team and achieved good results in improving the quality of tin plates.
At present, the domestic metal packaging industry has still stable development space. Pursuit of material security, material thinning trend prompted by energy saving, the changing from three piece to two piece beverage cans are the key issues which tin plate manufacturers are faced with in future. In this regard, Baosteel tin plate product development vision is four focal points thinning, surface, services and green and to achieve the most complete varieties and specifications, most stable quality most competitive price, optimal service and customer application technology.
In the next stage, Baosteel will continue to reduce manufacturing costs, achieve virtuous circle of high speed, high quality, low cost, enhance the production line process control and improve the overall finished product rate. It will fulfill the material application trends from quality, technology and services, promote related project research such as material thinning, tank weight reduction and customer application technology research. As for marketing and customer service upgrade, Baosteel will play the industrial leading role, continue to improve and strengthen technical service model and strengthen cooperation with industry leading customers.
Baosteel Co Ltd hopes to join hands with metal packaging industry customers and pay attention to development topics such as energy saving, environmental protection, food safety, go on with in-depth study and form a more stable supply chain.
