CanTech International: The US Food and Drug Administration will make a final decision on whether or not the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in packaging for food and drinks should be banned at the end of March.
The group has committed to decide by 31 March, 2012. After a three-year delay, the agency agreed to address the use of the chemical as part of a settlement reached today (Friday 9 December) with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
The agreement, approved by US District Judge Barbara Jones in New York, said the FDA must issue a final decision, not a tentative response.

European tinplate mills to increase prices for H1 next year
Yieh Corp Steel Market News: The price negotiation of tinplate in Europe for the first half of next year has still not concluded and the European tinplate mills planned to increase the prices by €40~€50/ton from February next year.
It’s said that if the European mills lift the prices successfully, Japanese mills will probably hike the export price to South and Central America as well.
The buyers asked the contract term to be one year from half of a year, while the European mills insisted on the contract term of one year because of the unstable raw material price.
From this autumn, some European tinplate mills stopped the production line to cut the supply amount, which caused many users to import large quantity cheap resource from China since they thought European mills would probably lift the price.

The First Technical Cooperation between Baosteel Ltd. and CPMC Generates Results,Tinplate Quality Is Further Improved
Baosteel Ltd: With the principles of "technical exchange, quality enhancement, close cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win", both parties set up 6 technical projects including the research on finishing property and material applicability, life cycle assessment, etc. at the beginning of the year through in-depth and meticulous communications. Both parties adopted the cooperation modes of cooperative brainstorming, exchange and summary in stages, tracking and feedback, etc., to enhance the effect of cooperation. Through efforts, now most projects have achieved favorable effects.
On the basis of the technical cooperations this year, both parties determined the technical cooperation projects for the next year, which include tinplate corrosion resistance improvement project, tinplate thinning for energy saving and emission reduction, testing and benchmarking of key indices of tinplate, etc.

The electrochemical behavior of electrolytic tinplate
Scopus: The electrochemical behavior of electrolytic tinplates was studied and analyzed by means of electrochemical methods together with tin quantity test and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the properties of the Sn-Fe alloy layer determined the electrochemical behavior of electrolytic tinplates. The electrolytic tinplate possessed higher corrosion resistance if the Sn-Fe alloy layer was thicker and more compact.
