Leading companies in France's retailing, packaging and food and drink industry have signed a voluntary agreement with the government to help achieve an objective to increase packaging recycling rates to 75 per cent by 2012.
Firms involved include L'Oreal, Coca Cola, ILEC, ANIA, and Pernod Ricard.
Among other things, they pledged to further reduce packaging weight and encourage waste separation.
