Russia: On market for metallic packaging

Packaging Digest: "The Russian market for metallic packaging is divided into three segments, namely foil from aluminium, aluminium cans and tins.

The company Rusal Sayana Foil is the only one player in the segment for aluminium foil. The company is planning to enlarge production and introduces new products in the assortment.

In the segment for tins, the leading players are both Russian and foreign companies. The main problem in the sector for tins used as packaging for food products is the necessity to import raw materials (as there is only one producer of tin in Russia) and varnishes.

The British concern Rexam (93-95% of the market), which owns the plants Rostar, is the main player in the market for aluminium packaging. Import of aluminium packaging to Russia is reducing, which forces suppliers to open production facilities on the territories of the country (the American Ball Corporation). Enterprises of the food industry are the main consumers of metallic packaging in Russia."
