Incpen welcomes product-focused packaging strategy

packagingnews.co.uk: "The Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment (Incpen) has welcomed suggestions that the government is delaying its packaging strategy for England due to concerns it failed to consider the whole product supply chain.

Incpen has long pushed for a holistic assessment of packaging in the supply chain, rather than a single issue approach to the environment. 'If this truly shows the sort of thinking being used to develop the strategy, then it is to be welcomed,' said director Jane Bickerstaffe.

A packaging strategy for England was mooted in the Food Matters report, which was published in January 2008, and Bickerstaffe said it 'seemed out of place' because the report was about food, rather than packaging. 'If packaging was to be included we've have expected some discussion about how it reduces food wastage,' she added."
