Factiva: "Most of ArcelorMittal’s US flatrolled operations are running well below their capabilities, according to a United Steelworkers (USW) union document obtained by Steel Business Briefing.
While the Weirton, West Virginia mill, with a focus on tinplate, is operating at 90% of its capability, another sheet mill is running at a 17% rate (see chart below).
The Hennepin, Illinois and Lackawanna, New York facilities were omitted from the chart as the producer has announced that it plans to close both these mills permanently, in February and March respectively.
Plans are already underway to lay off a significant portion of the company's Burns Harbor, Indiana workforce, as reported previously in SBB, and the Steelton, Pennsylvania longs operation may lay off an additional 200 in the near future, according to the document."
