Domestic tinplate production increased largely in the first nine months and producers began cutting output since November. It is estimated that the output for 2008 rose by 15% year on year. Nearly 700ktpy tinplate capacity were put into production in China in 2008. At the end of December 2008, Chinese production capacity of tinplate is estimated to be 3.84 mlntpy. But the newly-commissioned capacity has not ramped up to full capacity yet. It is expected that about 600ktpy new capacity will be added in 2009. But commission date of the new capacity may be delayed amid the economic crisis.
