Factiva: "Prices for tinplate in Europe have come down in the contracts starting on 1 July, but not by the same degree that they went up in January.
At the beginning of the year, European producers imposed an increase to compensate for profit losses caused by last year’s high raw material costs. The price increase was reported as around 30% by many customers, although some say the range of increase varied. “Many smaller customers agreed in autumn to pay a surcharge that mills suggested then, so their increase [in January] may have been lower,” one source says.
Although prices have come down in the latest mid-year contracts, it is particularly the smaller consumers which buy from intermediate tinplate processors that call the decrease “minimal” – of 3% according to one, of 5% according to another."
