Factiva: "German tinplate producer Rasselstein, part of ThyssenKrupp group, has returned to full shifts, suspending the short-time working scheme it introduced in spring last year. However, it will have to trim its headcount, a spokesman for the works council tells Steel Business Briefing.
Rasselstein has secured orders for 1.4m tonnes of tinplate for the current fiscal year (October 2009-September 2010), the spokesman says. This is a slight increase on the 1.35m t delivered in 2008/09 but still lags behind the 1.5m t shipped in each of the two years before that.
“This means we will have to carry out adjustments which were discussed with the executive board,” the spokesman says. As a result, of 2,460 jobs some 70 to 80 will be axed, mainly through early retirement and severance schemes."
