Factiva: "China’s tinplate prices have risen since last month, driven by stronger steel prices in July, Steel Business Briefing learns from the market.
Eastern Chinese tinplate maker, Xindazhong Steel Sheet, located in Jiangsu province, has increased its monthly ex-works prices for August by about RMB 300/tonne ($44/t). The new domestic ex-works price for 0.2x800mm tinplate is RMB 7,200/t ($1,053/t) with 17% VAT, up by RMB 300/t from July.
A company source says that although steel prices have begun to weaken since the start of August, there is still some momentum in tinplate because prices of other products, such as cold rolled coil, jumped several times last month.
In the Shanghai market, prices of tinplate sourced from Baosteel are strengthening. The price of the company’s 0.2x800mm MR T-3CA (E2.8/2.8) tinplate rose to about RMB 8,000/t ($1,170) with VAT, up more than RMB 200/t from one month ago
A Shanghai trader says materials sourced from smaller tinplate makers are decreasing in line with the overall steel market. But Baosteel has more flexibility to raise prices as it has not increased the price of tinplate for several months, he adds."
